With the December 21, 2012 end of the Mayan calendar rapidly approaching, I thought it would be appropriate to share some thoughts on this and other end of world/end of age scenarios that have persisted through the ages.
It is my firm belief that the hope many carry for a coming messiah, whether it be in the form of a person, a shift in human consciousness, a change in planetary alignments, or some type of divine intervention, stems from a simple lack of spiritual understanding. For thousands of years people have been reporting the mystical experience, an indicator that all the elements that make up this experience have been present since the dawn of recorded history. We can safely assume this has been going on long before people began writing about it. If we think of humankind and the changes that have occurred since we began recording our history, we find that nothing about the mystical experience and the way it is reported has changed. Language has changed, the metaphors used to describe the mystical experience have changed, but the experience itself has not. The faculty of mind needed to experience our spiritual source are now in place and have always been in place.
